I recently read that the Idaho House is offering drug-free college scholarships to students
who pledge not to use tobacco, drugs or alcohol. The students would have to
maintain a 2.5 grade point average and submit to random drug testing.

I’m very impressed with the incredible effort being made by the Idaho House to validate those kids who make the choice to be drug-free. It’s so refreshing to see a bright idea become a reality that is aimed at prevention.

While attention must go to handling the actual problem at hand, more measures like this will
no doubt contribute to a future that is less ridden with the negative effects of
addiction.

What if we, as a society, fought the war on drug & alcohol addiction with the same persistence as the U.S. government has chosen to fight the war in Iraq. It may seem completely unreal, but anything is possible… and it is possible to conceive of a world where people are not constantly ruining their own lives, as well as those surrounding them, with drugs and alcohol. Imagine that.

This is a war that is worthy of support and hard work, and it an endeavor that anyone can and should be part of.
